I won't drink dragons at night!

My goodness! I usually drink coffee with hubby at night... He always drinks his strong stuff but at night I chicken out and drink decaf! Yes... I must admit I drink that stuff but a mommy needs her sleep! well... last night the temptation was too big and I had a big cup of hubby's coffee... "Komodo Dragon Blend" (from Starbucks) ... I just love that blend! It is really, REALLY good... it's strong but smooth and almost with chocolaty notes ... just perfect! I am in no way receiving any compensation or money to "advertise" Starbucks coffee... I love that specific blend of theirs... that's just my very personal opinion... but I will never have it late at night again... (Unless I need to stay awake!) ... it was 2:30 in the morning and my heart was racing... it's not 7 in the morning yet and I am tired but awake! LOL! ... so... I won't try to slay that dragon again! Not at night!

At least it helped me get some reading done! I am reading "Same Kind of Different as Me" ... Thank you Melinda (from Mothering From Scratch ) for the book recommendation! I am LOVING IT!!! I will be sharing my thoughts on the book soon! :)

Happy Saturday everyone!

Memorial Day and a Winner!

Hello friends! I hope you are all (if you live in the USA) enjoying a nice day off with your family! I hope you eat good and rela... But I also hope you use this day to think of those who have sacrificed their lives and have been willing to fight to defend and protect our freedoms that sometimes we just take for granted! So... if you know someone who is fighting, who fought or who is related to one of those brave people... please make sure you show your gratitude somehow! I know I am thankful to all those people... and today I want to honor those two people in my life who went to war and who I am blessed to know and call family!

Grandpa Huebschen
Poor grandpa! I couldn't help but give him big HUGS!

Blessed to have such a great grandpa (Hubby's grandpa)

Wonderful man!
Uncle John
Holding my oldest daughter when she was a baby

With my girl again (impossible to take a pic of him where he is not surrounded by kids)

Thank you for service you did for your country! Love you so much!!!!

Your favorite Coffee Place

Hello everybody! How are you all doing? I hope some of you already tried the Cheesecake Cookie Cups of the previous post! If you didn't that's ok.... you can make them anytime you want... but something you DEFINITELY have to try soon are MY VERY own  Empanadas de PiƱa they are really great! I posted the recipe on my "Mexican Cooking" Blog because I think they are a Mexican dessert (and also because I had my dad to help me with it)

Today I want to ask you about your favorite place where you enjoy drinking your coffee (tea, hot chocolate, etc) ... and why you prefer that place! And I am not asking about your home (like in my case... I really love my coffee time at home with hubby) but that special place you found where you enjoy going to for "coffee". I think I had already posted about something like this... The reason why I am asking again is because, since we moved, my "favorite Coffee Shop" had to change... I loved "Alterra by the Lake" when I was in Milwaukee... but now, living in Texas I just LOVE Starbucks at Kemah! Just look at this:

And... It is REALLY CLOSE to the ocean! Isn't that neat? It is still very hot in Texas right now... but hey! You can still have something cold to drink! I am looking forward to a date with hubby when it's not that hot outside and we can both have a good cup of coffee (venti please!) and we can walk by the ocean! -sigh- ... So, I do miss Alterra by the lake, but I am glad there is such a neat option for us to go to here, it is still pretty far from home (about 50 mins) so it's not like we can go there anytime we would like to but our coffee at home is pretty good for our daily coffee!

How about you? Is there any special Coffee Shop you go to? Why do you like it there? Because it's quiet? or because it's busy? You go there to study? relax? think? talk with friends? Share with us! And if you have a picture you can send it to love.for.coffee@gmail.com and we'll even post it on our next Coffee Friday we'll be giving you (and your blog if you have one) credit for it! We'll re-start our Coffee Friday tradition in November.

So... share with us!

Monday Moment - Starbucks Giveaway wrap-up

Good morning everyone! What a beautiful day! It is Monday, how are you starting your week? Remember that attitude is very important! you can have a good or bad week if you want to, it's usually up to us!

There is something that Charles Swindoll from Insight for Living said, and I really agree with it so I thought I would share it with all of you:

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes."

I hope you reflect on that and decide to have a great week and help someone else do the same too!

New Starbucks Flavor - Vanilla Frappuccino Light!

Hello my friends! :) How are you doing today? I hope yesterday's quotes inspired you to love, to smile, to enjoy and forget about any anxiety...

Before I tell you about the new flavor of Starbucks.... I want to let you know about my daughter's test results.... I want to praise God because they were all great, they were testing for "diabetes insipidus" it has nothing to do with sugar or insuline but it is still scary.... It is a life time condition that prevents the body from keeping any fluid, the person is always thirsty and there are excessive amounts of urine... My daughter had those symptoms but Thank God she is fine.... And she is actually drinking less water now and she is not desperately thirsty as she was.... I know it is God who keeps her healthy... To Him be the Glory!

2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
         Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, (Psalm 103:2-4, New King James Version)

▩▩▩▩▩▩▩▩▩▩▩▩▩▩

And now about Starbucks... Yesterday I received an e-mail from "Mary Ann" on behalf of Starbucks.... She made nice comments about the quotes yesterday (Thanks Mary Ann, I am glad you enjoyed them) and she also let me know that Starbucks has recently introduced a new flavo,r let me actually quote what she has to say about this new beverage:

"Vanilla Frapucchino Light - This rich beverage contains 50% fewer calories and 60% less sugar than their classic Vanilla flavor, making it that much easier to justify the indulgence!"

She is also inviting bloggers to post an image on Monday about some time in the past week that they were able to sneak away from their hectic life for a bit of relaxation even if only for 5 minutes. It could be a photo of yourself, an illustration, a picture of your cat- anything.  I am taking the challenge and I might even follow this project as a "tradition" for "The Coffee Shop" I think every picture I post might have a cup of coffee in it! j/k... Anyway I think I will post a picture every Monday about it!

So, That's it for today! I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday.... Mary Ann said they would send me a sample of their new Frappuccino.... once I try it I will let you know what I think!

Hugs!

Today is a new day...

Hello my friends... thanks for all the words of wisdom, for your encouragement and prayers... I am sorry if I sounded all weird in my last post.... I was just... too discouraged... too sad about the news I watched.... but you all helped me see clearly... and "The Coffee Shop" will continue... :)

I will try to post regularly... I will try to answer to your comments here in my blog.... I love you all :) I am honored with the friends I have here...

I want to also thank those who also sent me messages through Facebook and e-mail... :) Your words meant a lot!

About my relationship with God... well... He definitely wants me to be closer to Him... but the blog does not necessarily keep me from being close to Him (unless I am blogging all day long) ... same thing with my daughter... I can still be a good mom and blogger LOL!

---

Yesterday was a good day... Hubby had 1/2 day off and we went to the park... the day was beautiful and we enjoyed seeing our 18mo. play and enjoy the sun and the wind on her face! She was so happy

Here is a video:

It was really a blast! Then we went to Starbucks... Hubby had a "Cafe Mocha" YAY!!! I convinced him to try something different, he always has just black coffee... no sugar, no cream of course! he really liked it! I had a capuccino, it was ok but I think I will stick to my frapuccino mocha! :)

"Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness" Lamentations 3:22-23

Christmas gift...

And of course... as Christmas presents my hubby and I gave.... COFFEE!!! Do not worry, we do love coffee but we are not crazy obsessed with it... we know there are people who do not like it so we would never give coffee as a present if we weren't sure they liked as much as we do...

Today we went to my in-laws' house! The decoration was really nice, the spread was great and they gave us very nice gifts (I got a GPS! yay!) and some money! But knowing that they really enjoy drinking coffee we decided to give them a sampler of the different roasts Starbucks has! some sugar cookies and a Starbucks gift card! They really liked it and we are very happy for that!

Table for Rent / Se renta mesa

By Josh K.

Last night I rented another table like I do every other Thursday. I try to rent the same one each time but many times I have to choose another one. My portion of the cost of the table is right around $3.00 each time. My other friends, from church, also share the rent with me. Each of us pays right around $3.00. It is on Thursday nights that the guys get together for coffee and deep discussion. Starbucks had it right in their business plan to look at the coffee business as a rental business. They knew that we would spend more time at a table then we would with our cup of coffee. They also knew the longer we spend at the table the greater chance we will purchase another cup of coffee.

Last night for instance, I purchased the greatest cup of Starbucks coffee they have “cafĆ© estima.” It is a rich flavored coffee that goes really well with a piece of chocolate. My other friends purchased flavored sodas and cookies. Our total bill if we were to add it up would probably be right around $13.00. Not a bad bit of profit in the table renting business.

If we looked at coffee as table renting as consumers we might get a little frustrated. We’d figure it would be cheaper to use a free table at home and purchase a pound of coffee at the store and be better off. But there is something about the environment at Starbucks that draws us each time. When we are there, we feel we are treating ourselves to something special. We feel we are in a place of intellect and learning. Everything about it makes you feel like you are smarter, wealthier and more relaxed.

Our Thursday nights are nights of debate and discussion. Tonight we debated the possibility of other dimensions as it relates to math, physics, astronomy and reality. That lead us to debate whether or not the word “day” in the book of Genesis corresponded to a literal 24-hour period or to an indistinct amount of time. We soon changed the topic to whether or not a Christian’s duty changes depending on life or death circumstances and if he or she has a duty in politics. This topic lead to a Christians response to monetary decisions of giving to others versus purchasing for self. And we capped the night off with one last gulp of coffee and a quick review of Jonathan Edwards’s view of man’s free will.

Pretty heavy topics you might say, but for us it is Thursday night at Starbucks. Thirteen dollars seems a small price to pay for a great cup of coffee, some dessert, great discussion, inspiring environment and a night out with the guys. I don’t mind renting a table just as long as it comes with a great cup of coffee!
